OLGA DEMCHUK was born Olga Chernomaz on November 14, 1925. Born into a third generation Ukrainian-Canadian farming household, Olga worked alongside her parents and siblings on their family farm. When Olga was 18, she met Harry Michael Demchuk, who had just returned from the War and would become Olga’s life-long husband.

In 1944, Olga and Harry moved to Canora, Saskatchewan to build their life together, which started with having twins a year later; Barbara and Bernice. Bernice did not survive, but Barbara was joined by more siblings; Garry, Ken, Robert, and Kelly. The family moved from Canora to Vauxhall, Alberta and finally to Lethbridge in 1962.

Both Harry and Olga were hard workers and created a loving family life for their children and grandchildren, who were their pride and joy. Their home was a gathering place for family get-togethers, which were always full of life and laughs. Everyone knew that Olga and Harry were generous and loving. Harry passed away on May 31, 1997.

Olga remained in her home for many years, where she continued to grow a large garden and was known for her amazing Ukrainian cooking and for baking the best pies anyone could ever taste! Her freezer and cellar held the jackpot of everyone’s favourite foods which she would perfect to all of her kids and grandkids’ liking. Olga made occasions like birthdays, Easter, Christmas, and Halloween special, especially for her grandchildren.

Olga was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and loved to dress up and go dancing with Harry at the Saturday night socials. Their life together was full of good times, great friends, and loving family. Olga loved flowers, gardening, knitting, playing bingo with her friends, and being with her family.

Olga’s final years were spent in the excellent care of the Good Samaritan’s Residences at Park Meadows. Olga passed away on June 2, 2018 at age 92.

Olga will be buried alongside of Harry in the Veteran’s Field of Honour at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, 1210 Scenic Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. Friends and family are welcome.
