HOBBS

ERNEST HARCOURT HOBBS passed away November 3, 2016 in the presence of family at the age of 93. His loss will be most deeply felt by his loving wife and soul mate Eileen, son Chuck (Domynique Fortin), daughter Dorothy (Gregory) Humphrey and daughter Betty (Alan) McNaught, grandsons Matthew Hobbs (Jaclyn Moneypenny), Timothy (Sara) Hobbs, Ryan Humphrey (Ardythe Harder), Patrick Humphrey, and Cole McNaught (Shelley Petersen). He will also be greatly missed by his extended family and many dear friends.

Harcourt was predeceased by his parents Henry and Sarah Hobbs, brother Norris, sister Helen, brother Harry, and grandson William McNaught.

Harcourt was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on October 14th, 1923. He spent his formative years living on the family farm near Ruthilda, Saskatchewan, where he developed his lifetime ideals – commitment to family, the rewards of hard work, fiscal responsibility, love of nature, to do your best, and the importance of developing deep and lasting connections with friends.

He was a good scholar, completing a teacher’s certificate at Normal school, and then taught at a small one-room Saskatchewan school house. He subsequently joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Coastal Command Squadron 407, serving in southern England and northern Scotland as an LAC – Leading Aircraftman, Wellington Bomber gun armourer from 1943 to 1946. He was very proud of this service to his country.

After the war, Harcourt enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with a BSc. in Agricultural Engineering. Following graduation, he spent over 30 years working firstly at the Vauxhall, then the Lethbridge Research Stations, where he published over 70 scientific papers. His specialty was irrigation, and he witnessed the transformation from the early days of hand-dug flood channel techniques through the development of the St. Mary River Irrigation District, to modern day electronically controlled pivot irrigation systems. He was able to share his expertise as a consultant in Idaho, Pakistan and Uruguay.

Harcourt was a competitive sports fan and remained physically active all his life. Sport interests included shinny hockey, baseball, curling, golf, square dancing, snooker, cards, – he loved and excelled at all of them.

Harcourt believed in service to God, Queen, Country and Community. He was actively involved in McKillop United Church, was a scout leader, president of the Lethbridge prostate cancer support group, active in the Legion Revelers, president of the Grandview Condo association, head of the Research Station bridge club, and more. Harcourt lived his belief in doing his share of the work and leaving things in better shape than when he arrived.

Harcourt and Eileen were married in Saskatoon in August 1952. He was devoted to her and a strong advocate for the challenges her hearing loss brought. He was an amazing father, and was an active parent to Chuck, Dorothy and Betty. Three spouses and then six grandsons were welcomed into the family. He and Eileen loved to travel, visiting many countries and taking numerous cruises with friends and family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at MCKILLOP UNITED CHURCH – 2329 15 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Wednesday, November 9th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Trevor Potter officiating. Lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of choice are appreciated.

Keith Erwin Jorgensen 1946 -2016

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Keith Jorgensen of Coaldale, beloved husband of Beverley. Keith passed away in Lethbridge after a courageous battle with cancer on November 3, 2016 at the age of 70 years. Keith was born in Lethbridge, Alberta to Edward and Joyce Jorgensen January 10, 1946 and was raised on the family farm in the Iron Springs district. He attended Huntsville School and graduated at Picture Butte High School in 1964. Keith attended Lethbridge Junior College for two years and completed his Bachelor of Education at the University of Calgary. After graduation Keith taught at R.I. Baker Junior High School, Picture Butte High School, and Kate Andrews High School. Keith met Beverley while attending Lethbridge Junior College, celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past September. Keith was an active volunteer in Coaldale and Southern Alberta with many organizations. He was the scout master for Coaldale First Boy Scouts of Canada, an active ATA member and served as President of Local 21, on the board in both the SABOA and SAFOA, as an executive member for the Southern Alberta High School Baseball League, Lethbridge American Legion Baseball, Montana American Legion Baseball, and Commissioner of WMBL, and as founding member of the Prairie Baseball Academy. Two highlights for Keith were seeing Lloyd Nolan Yard become a reality in 1997 and watching the Lethbridge Bulls win the 2015 Championship. Keith enjoyed the game of golf whether it was at the local Land O’Lakes, Arizona, or wherever the wind took him and his golf buddies. Keith liked to garden and lovingly planted, hoed and harvested his vegetables with great care and pride. It was here that he felt peace and calm from his busy and active daily life. Above all else Keith’s greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. Keith had great fun teasing and loving each one. He was indeed proud of their many accomplishments and always challenged each of them to become the best they could be, to be honest and fair, to respect and to love one another. Keith is survived by his wife Beverley; children: Jodi and Ross Harker of Raymond, Alberta; Trevor and Marda Jorgensen of Phoenix, Arizona; Marnie and Richard Flores of New Albany, Ohio, and seven wonderful grandchildren: Hilary Harker, Claire Harker, Benton Harker, Maren Jorgensen, Nigel Flores, Poppy Flores and Lavender Flores. He is also survived by two sisters Jerri (John) Bolton and Heather (Doug) Speelman and three sisters-in-law, Jean (Will) Martens, May Reyes, and Bonnie Brown as well many nephews and nieces. At an early age she worked as a domestic helper for various individuals and cooked for large harvest crews. She met and married Kenneth Peterson in 1941. They farmed together at Craddock until Dads’ passing in 1982 after which she rented the farm. She married Frank Sloan of Cardston in 1984 and spent many happy years together until his passing in 1998. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her crowning achievement was being a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Mother had many talents and abilities among which were sewing, painting, needle work , raising beautiful gardens and flowers and most of all being a great homemaker. She and dad shared many passions including curling, baseball, dancing and going to Arizona in the winters. She influenced many people in her life and was always willing to extend a helping hand to help those in need. She was a special person to many.

Special thanks to the amazing caregivers who have attended to mother through the years especially Liezel and Marsha.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel, on Saturday, November 12th at 1:00 p.m. Friends may meet the family from 12:00-12:45 p.m. prior to the service. She will be laid to rest in the family plot at Stirling at 4:30.

DAVIS

OLIVE MARINA DAVIS

– Iitspoohkoomiakii

“Calling from Above Woman”

June 14th, 1936 –

November 3rd, 2016

It is with profound and deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beautiful and beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother/great grandmother, cousin and friend. Mom made her journey to be with her Lord and Saviour on November 3rd, 2016 at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital.

She was surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was born at the Blood Indian Hospital on June 14th, 1936.

She was the eldest child of Edward and Jane Davis, she most recently celebrated her 80th birthday.

Her loss will be most deeply felt by her loving children; Jackie (John), Roxanne, Jarvis, Shannon (Iippii) and her baby; Maria Joy. Also her 3 stepsons; Gerald (Robin) Wells, Eugene (Sharyl) Wells and Howard Wayne (Luigi) Wells, all of Montana, USA. She will also be greatly missed by her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. All of whom she was so proud of and held each and every one of them so dearly to her heart.

She also leaves behind her siblings; Vivian, Wesley (Jeannie), Thelma and her baby sister Karen, who shares the same birthday as her. It has often been said by Karen that she was the best present that mom (Olive) ever received!

She will also be sadly missed by all of her nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives and so may friends. Olive was predeceased by her parents Edward and Jane Davis, paternal grandparents Charlie and Rosie Davis, maternal grandparents Mary Russell, Tom and Cecille Russell; her sister Jaunita and brother-in-law Evans Melting Tallow, her bothers Wilbert and Chester Davis; her baby Lloyd Davis; her nephew Brendan Brothen and most recently her niece, Anita (Twinks) Melting Tallow.

Mom was our rock! She sacrificed so much for us. She taught us to love God and to show kindness and compassion towards others. She taught us to be humble and forgiving, especially when we didn’t want to be. She often told us never to think we were better than anyone and to treat all with respect. She often told us how proud she was of each of us and she saw us as perfect, even if we were not. When we were small, she always kissed us good night, even if we were asleep. She always had a smile, a hug and a “hello” for everyone.

Her kitchen was always open to family and friends. Her phone was always busy. Her favorite question to her children, grandchildren and friends was, “So, any news?” or “Anything new?” She liked to talk hockey with the boys. She loved Jerome Iginla. She loved Elvis and Freddie Fender. She was cool!

She was “Mom” to many foster children and all of her children’s friends. She loved the Lord and often shared that love with others. She was very proud of the fact that she, along with her friend Don Frantz, produced a DVD of the Bible based on the Book of Luke, which they translated into the Blackfoot language. Their DVD has been distributed far and wide and has led many to the Lord. At the time of her passing they were working on a Blackfoot Dictionary.

Mom your passing has left such a deep void in our hearts that can never be filled. We love you to infinity, but God loves you more, so he took you home.

“Every morning lean thine arms a while

Upon the window sill of heaven

And gaze upon the Lord

Then, with a vision in thy heart,

Turn strong to meet the day.”

Marlene Salamon

June 4, 1948 – November 7, 2016

It is with great sadness that we say good bye to a wonderful woman: Marlene Ann Salamon of Lethbridge. Marlene passed away days following a heart attack, on November 7, 2016 at the age of 68 years. Marlene bravely battled a lengthy journey with ongoing health problems. She was a terrific mother, grandmother, sister, auntie and friend. Her family was grateful to be able to say their goodbyes, and be there by her side in her peaceful, final moments. Marlene was born in Lethbridge, AB on June 4, 1948. She grew up with her parents and siblings in Northern AB, eventually got married and took on the challenges of homemaker and farm wife. Marlene also was a business woman and entrepreneur. She was a florist and owned her own flower shop for many years. She eventually found herself back in Lethbridge through the years, and there, spent the last moments of her life. Marlene was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. We will remember her as a great listener, honest, hardworking, positive, strong willed woman who touched the hearts of everyone who were fortunate enough to know her. Marlene’s favorite past times were: gardening, baking, crocheting, visiting over coffee, playing cards, and of course, spending countless hours in her beautiful flower gardens. Marlene loved traditions and family get togethers. She welcomed all that came into her home; her door was always open. Marlene was happiest spending time with her grandchildren, which were her most favorite times of the day. Marlene is survived by her five daughters: Nanci Salamon, Karin (Mike) Ewashen, Jenifer (Salvador) Konopelka, Christine (Aaron) Babiak and Kathryn (Scooter) Rollack. She will always live on in the hearts of her grandchildren: Tony (Katie), Emma, Ashlyn, Megan, Austin, Kylie and Carter. Marlene is also survived by her siblings: Irene Cohrs, Emily Thomas, Gerri Kwaznitza, Rudy Salamon, Alice Hargreaves, Darlene Emard, Leona Levins and Marg Kudeba; as well as many nieces and nephews. Her furry friend, Chloe, will also miss her dearly. Marlene is pre-deceased by her late husband Alexander Konopelka, parents Mary and John Salamon, brother John Salamon, infant brother Andrew Salamon, and grandchildren Cadence and Casey Rollack. Marlene will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Special thanks to the staff of Lethbridge Regional Hospital and St. Michael’s Health Centre for their ongoing medical and loving support throughout the years. Marlene has truly inspired all of us. She was such a positive, strong willed woman who touched the hearts of everyone who were fortunate enough to know her. She made the most of every good day; even the bad days were good days to her. A happy, beautiful person inside and out. May you rest easy in heaven; you truly deserve it. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4th Street South, Lethbridge, AB.

DAVID LAWRENCE HARDY June 1, 1950 — November 13, 2016

With gratitude for his life, we announce the passing of DAVID LAWRENCE HARDY on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at age 66 years. David devoted himself to his faith, his family, and his fellow men. Born June 1, 1950 to Lyman and Mildred Hardy, David grew up in Stirling, Alberta where he excelled in athletics and academics and graduated as valedictorian of his high school class. Following graduation, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in eastern Canada. He married his eternal sweetheart, Rita Navratil, on August 25, 1971 in the Cardston Alberta Temple and, with her, raised thirteen children. He earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Lethbridge and taught at Stirling School before dedicating his professional life to entrepreneurship and innovation. David created multiple businesses. His work in animal nutrition taught him principles he later applied to human nutrition for the optimization of mental health. He strove tirelessly, passionately, and internationally to promote both the research and the clinical use of nutrient supplementation. David was motivated in his work and in his relationships by compassion, generosity, and truth. His colleagues from many countries mourn his passing. Charles W. Popper, M.D., of Harvard Medical School wrote, “David Hardy’s foresight and vision for the future of health care was critical in establishing the beginnings of a new movement in medical treatment, health promotion, and wellness. He was a visionary thinker who was also a careful observer of detail, a thoughtful synthesizer of disparate lines of research, and a courageous leader who helped force open the way for the medical community to think beyond its dogmas into a new world of possibilities. As we mark his passing, we know that he will not be here to see the fruition of his ideas, but he laid enough groundwork that we can know now that his ideas will ultimately prevail and profoundly alter the direction of medicine and the quality of human life.” In honor of David’s contribution to the field of mental health research, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Nutrition and Mental Health Fund of the Foundation for Excellence in Mental Health Care. Online donations can be made by Americans at MentalHealthExcellence.org, and by Canadians at CalgaryFoundation.org. In both cases, please select the Nutrition and Mental Health Fund for the donation and indicate it is in memory of David Hardy. Canadians should also ask that the donor advisor (Dr. Bonnie Kaplan) be notified. David valued his family and his faith in Jesus Christ above all else, and he dedicated his life to serving them. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rita; by his thirteen children and their spouses: Jeff (Kim) Hardy, Cara (Cory) Rasmussen, Camilla (Alan) Harrison, Cherilea (Aaron) Pace, Jared (Sheralee) Hardy, Landon (Brenna) Hardy, Emily (Michael) Shatzer, Kayleen (Kendon) Evanson, Lowyn (Heather) Hardy, Dallin (Heather) Hardy, Janae (Dustin) Purnell, Shelyse (KC) Erb, and Joseph Hardy; sixty-five grandchildren; and his six siblings: Clark (Deanna) Hardy, Reid (Edith) Hardy, Elaine (Alan) Fletcher, Max (Marilyn — deceased) Hardy, Janice (John) Ellingson, and Barbara (Brent) Kovac. He was predeceased by his parents, Lyman and Mildred Hardy, his son-in-law George McFadzean, and his grandson Lyman Hardy. Words of John from the Bible best convey David’s deepest feelings: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” Friends are invited to meet the family on Saturday morning, November 19 from 9:45 until 10:45 at the RAYMOND STAKE CENTRE of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2 North – 200 West, Raymond, Alberta. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with interment at the Temple Hill Cemetery.

PLAUSTEINER

CHRISTINE ELIZABETH PLAUSTEINER, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14th, 2016 at the age of 36 years.

Christine is the loving mother of Alyssa May Jane, Michel Megan-Jean, and Kiarra Marie. She is also survived by her parents Frank (Stephanie) Plausteiner and Bonnie (Hank) Morin, as well as her sister; Lisa (Jason) Plausteiner.

Christine is predeceased by her grandmothers Johanna Plausteiner and Ethel Campbell.

Born on December 23, 1979, Christine came into the world a month early. She was so small that she was brought to her mom and dad in a Christmas stocking. Being born so close to Christmas, she always believed her birthday to be that much more special. Christmas was always her favorite time of year.

As a child, she had a mind for activity and adventure. Swimming, skating, skiing and a lot of camping was what she loved to do, although she also cherished quiet moments. She loved road trips with her dad and quiet snuggles with her mom most of all.

Her vibrant personality drew those around her close. She always wore a smile and encouraged others to do the same. In fact, one of her favorite sayings was “Don’t forget to wear your smile”. She repeated this to everyone. She was a kind, caring, loving person who would never hesitate to help another out.

She found her professional calling as a Health Care Aide. She worked for over ten years at two Extendicare locations. She loved the residents she worked with and they all loved her. In her work, she always showed patience, attentiveness and compassion.

Christine’s proudest accomplishment were her three beautiful daughters, Alyssa, Michel, and Kiarra. They were the light of her life. She drew strength from them and loved them with everything in her. In those girls, you can see all that was wonderful in Christine.

Christine will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was called daughter, sister, mother, and friend and wore each of those titles proudly. She loved life and loved those in her life. Although it is too soon to say goodbye, we are better to have known her for the time we did.

A Celebration of Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME – 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. Those that wish may come and pay their respects prior to the service between 12:00 – 1:00 P.M.

Alberta Patricia Geldreich

1918 – 2016

Mrs. Pat Geldreich of Bow Island, beloved wife of the late Mr. Ray Geldreich, passed away at the Bow Island Care Centre on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the age of 98 years. Alberta Patricia (Metheral) Geldreich was born on July 6, 1918. She was named for the province to which her parents, Norman and Ruth Metheral, had recently migrated; and for the Princess Patricia Light Infantry Unit her uncle was fighting with in the first World War. Born in the hospital in Foremost where her mother had been a nurse, Pat – like so many children of that era – learned at an early age to assume responsibility in helping out around the home and ranch, and in caring for her younger siblings, Lou and Jack. Pat started school in Foremost when her family moved from the ranch into town, but at an early age started boarding in Medicine Hat to complete high school. She attended Normal School in Calgary and her first teaching position was in a one-room school on the “Bench” in Cypress Hills. Pat’s childhood instilled the characteristics that would define her life: an undying work ethic, a commitment to achieving the highest standards she could set for herself, a fearlessness in overcoming obstacles placed in front of her…and a selflessness that always placed her family and friends first. The hundreds of students she taught over her long career could probably attest to this. She loved being reminded by former students that she was “tough but fair.” In 1943, Pat found her perfect complement and partner when she married Ray Geldreich, a farmer from Bow Island who was serving in the R.C.A.F. Pat and Ray settled in Foremost where they raised their two children, Diane and David. In 1955, Pat resumed her teaching career in both Foremost and Bow Island and enjoyed completing her Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Lethbridge in the 1970s. When their son purchased the farm in 1980, Pat and Ray moved back to Foremost where they enjoyed over 25 years of wonderful retirement. Their large lot enabled Ray to ‘farm’ his huge garden, and Pat to grow her spectacular roses and giant pumpkins for the Library fundraising festival. They took great pleasure from their young grandchildren and continued to be completely involved with family and the community. Pat probably gained the most satisfaction from the part she played in the following projects: the writing and editing of “Shortgrass Country”, the establishment of the Shortgrass Regional Library System, and the fundraising for and creation of the Foremost Library. After Ray’s death in 2007, Pat relocated to Pleasant View Lodge in Bow Island where she resided until recently moving to Extended Care at the Bow Island Hospital. She passed away there the evening of November 16. LAYCOCK

HUGH LAYCOCK, beloved patriarch of the Laycock family, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2016 in Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 93. He was the beloved husband of the late Audrey Laycock.

Survived by his children: Bill (Carol) Lethbridge, Brent (Kathy) Calgary, Kim (Glenda) Raymond, and Roxanne (Mark) Bingham Calgary; 27 grandchildren and 74 great- grandchildren of whom he was very proud. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Audrey, (2007), his daughter Melanie Bastian (August 2016), and his siblings: Harold Laycock, Merne Livingstone, and Ralph Laycock.

To his family and community, he was tall and strong in both physique and integrity. Hugh was born on October 3, 1923 in Lethbridge to George Laycock and Fern Redd Laycock. He married Audrey Storie on December 16, 1943, in the Cardston Temple and moved to the family farm where they raised their five children. In 1973 they returned to Lethbridge.

Most of his working life was devoted to farming, but his focus was on raising his family. For a few years, he worked as a real-estate agent in Lethbridge.

Consistently faithful in the LDS Church, he served in various positions such as bishop, high counselor, and teacher of adults and youth. He and Audrey served at the Cardston Temple, a family history mission in Salt Lake City and a stake mission in Southern Alberta. He happily served others.

Hugh was never bored. His life was filled with creative passions in music, flying, building, inventing, photography and other hobbies. He sang in church choirs, the Choralaires, and many quartets, and he played drums in a dance band as a young man and was a violinist in the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra for 48 years. At the age of 50, he fulfilled a long-time dream of learning to fly and eventually established the Lethbridge Adventure Flight Centre on the farm where he trained ultra-light pilots until his late eighties. All his talents were used to lift others.

The children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of continual joy for Hugh. He left them a legacy of love, hard work, service and faith.

Jean Ruth Sinclair (Ekelund)

Jean Ruth Sinclair was born July 19, 1927 at Berkeley, California and passed away peacefully November 12, 2017 in Fort Macleod, AB. Mom was born into a pioneering family and raised on the Ekelund homestead in the Twin Butte area. The Rocky Mountains and Waterton Lakes were always dear to her heart. Mom graduated from High School in Pincher Creek, AB, then bravely headed to Edmonton to become a registered nurse. She graduated from Edmonton General Hospital in 1949. Mom worked at the Fort Macleod Hospital as DON and Operating Room Nurse for 30 years, then at the Haig Clinic in Lethbridge, then the Walker Clinic back in Fort Macleod before retiring.

As well as a stellar nursing career, Mom married Dad, William Francis Cuppen on June 16, 1952 and together they had 5 children. She raised us largely on her own. As you can well imagine, her mantra through our teenage years was “Let go” and “Let God”.

In December of 1979 Mom married George Sinclair and spent many happy years together before George passed away in November, 2006. Mom was an amazing example of someone who met life head-on, and despite hardship, still saw the good in others and the blessings of life. She leaves a lasting legacy of love and steadiness. She was a pillar of strength throughout her years.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Aaron and Ruth Ekelund, and her brothers Jack and Bill, William Cuppen, and George Sinclair. She is survived by her brother Bob (June) Ekelund, and her sister Helen McNab, her children Jack (Connie) Cuppen, Joyce (Jerry) Widmer, Doug (Debra) Cuppen, Nolan (Vicki) Cuppen, Nony (David) Orr, and George’s three sons Lee, Ray, and Dean Sinclair. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held December 17th, 2016 at 1:00 pm with luncheon to follow at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (643-20th Street, Fort Macleod, AB.) Memorial donations gratefully accepted to the Fort Macleod Handi-bus, Box 881 Fort Macleod, Ab T0L 0Z0.

Marg Reimer
1930 – 2016
It is with mixed emotions that we announce the home going of Margaret Reimer, a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the age of 85 years.  We know that our loss is heaven’s gain.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Evangelical Free Church, 214 – 4 Avenue West, Bow Island on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 5:30 P.M. with a time of worship beginning at 6:30 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Evangelical Free Church, 214 – 4 Avenue West, Bow Island on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 1:30 P.M. Burial to follow at the Bow Island Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at http://www.southlandfuneral.com.
Marg is survived by her beloved husband Ben Reimer; children Gerald (Kathy) Reimer of Burdett, Harvey (Sue) Reimer of Bow Island, Dorothy (Reg) Robey of Bow Island and Brent (Susan) Reimer of Burdett; son-in-law Walter (Rhonda) Wiens of Bow Island as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter Eleanor Wiens and great granddaughter Cara Hope Hume.
Margaret was the third child of Bernhard and Elizabeth Doerksen. She grew up in the Coaldale area and it was here she learnt her hard work ethic, her love for God and family, and her ability to tackle anything that was put before her.
She completed grade eleven and then quit school to earn money. Marg hoed beets, worked for Matkins as a live in nanny and housekeeper and as a clerk in the Del Monte store. She attended bible school in Coaldale and sat behind a young man who would one day become the love of her life, Bernhard (Ben) Reimer. They were married August 23, 1953 and lived in Vauxhall for a short time before settling around the Burdett area.
Her life was always filled as she tackled her most important job of being her husband’s right hand man on the farm, the supporter for her husband as he joined many committees and explored new adventures. Marg nurtured her five children Eleanor, Gerald, Harvey, Dorothy and Brent.
Money was tight in the early years of marriage. She learnt how to cook and bake after being married and was able to be creative and always had room at her table for one more person. Marg ran a small business from her house selling milk, eggs and cream to surrounding neighbors. This was a lot of work but she loved the visits and friendships she cultivated because of this opportunity. Once a week Ben and Marg drove to Lethbridge to deliver cream and eggs, visit family and buy supplies.
Marg was a fighter and tackled every situation with the same determination. She was ill with heat exhaustion and gallbladder issues during her young married years. Marg survived her house burning down and being badly burnt as well as guillain barre syndrome. Doctors would give her little hope and she would defy odds and be up and working again in record time. Her last illness of dementia was one that she was unable to conquer.
Marg learned to cook and bake like a pro. She loved sewing quilts, cleaning, nurturing her flowers and teaching her children the art of hospitality. Marg loved her grandchildren and lived to make special treats for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. No family get together was complete unless everyone’s favorite treats were there.
Marg loved reading and shared that love with many. She read a variety of books but her favorite and most loved was her Bible.
Marg used her skills by volunteering for the Burdett ladies auxiliary and the church – teaching clubs, Sunday school and serving on the hostess committee. She made many lifelong friendships.
Marg loved God, her family and friends and showed us how much she loved us by being a giving loving woman.
She will be missed by her family and friends. Auf Wiedersehen.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Marg’s name may be made directly to the Gideons International in Canada, Box 3619, Guelph, Ontario N1H 7H2 (http://www.gideons.ca).
